Working with so many curious, ambitious, and kind humans is one of the best things (if not the best thing) about being at Thumbtack. This month, I’ve had the privilege of welcoming another such person to the team: Noam Lovinsky as our new VP of Product. We’ve got a long road ahead still, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him leading the charge.
In a lot of ways, we’re entering a new era of Thumbtack. We’ve always been focused on our vision — we want to be the destination for getting anything done. Now we’re in the position to take bigger, bolder bets, and to do that, we’re making changes to our product that are going to seriously improve our customers’ and pros’ experiences. There’s a lot happening. But this momentum is due, in large part, to the fact that so much has happened already.
More than five years ago, Thumbtack was very different. We were small and scrappy and still figuring out what our product should be. Despite obvious uncertainties, Jake Poses jumped in feet first and became our first PM, then our first Director of Product, and then, eventually, our first VP of Product. He built our monetization model, figured out how to acquire customers on both sides of the market, and created an experience that customers describe as “magic”—all while growing and managing a 50-person team.
Now, Jake is moving home to New York, ready for his next adventure. We’re so happy for him, but we’re also sad to see such an influential colleague and great friend go. He’s made Thumbtack—our product and our team—stronger, smarter, and ready to take on the tough and important problems ahead. He worked closely with me to find and onboard an awesome leader to take his place. When we met Noam, we all knew he was the right person for the job.
With a strong foundation in place, and Noam’s fresh perspective, I couldn’t feel more confident about the future of this company. There’s energy inside these office walls, and we’re all eager to make Thumbtack better than ever.
Don’t take it all from me, though. Noam decided to join the team because he thinks that, like YouTube, Thumbtack’s success is inevitable. You can read more about what he’s looking forward to here. And over the past few years, Jake’s learned a lot about chaos, building a broad marketplace, managing young teams, and more.
